Hi guys. This is a bizarre question, but I am hoping someone will be able to answer it. On some Web sites, such as www.icebergradio.com and www.muchmusic.com, there is a short beeping sound after the site finishes loading. I am not sure what Windows is doing when this sound occurs, but I have to shut the virtual curtos off and turn it back on in all cases when this occurs in order to have JAWS start reaging the newly loaded page. Anyonw know what this could be? Thanks.

hmm, mine does that sometimes when the site is trying to make you autodownload and the computer stops it. It may not be that though, I can't see why it would be if it's just when you're loading the page...

If that is the case, how could I stop it? It seems to happen on flash sites so very probably it is trying to auto download flash players.

hmm, i dont' know. Mine's never fucked up my pc curser so I dont' really have a problem with it. It just beeps away to it's little self and I just ignore it. You could try going in to active X controls and turning them off and configgering jaws to ignore flash, but apart from that, I dont' really know, sorry...

The beeping is a sound notifying you that windows XP (service pack 2) is showing it's security tool bar. Currently, jaws has no hotkey to access this bar (afaik). The tool bar is shown when a website is trying to do something that Windows XP doesn't think is safe (IE downloading a file, installing flash or other browser plugins, and a bunch of other things). If you go to a website that doesn't work like it's supposed to, you can use this bar to fix it. Using your jaws cursor, look around the screen until you find a line with the words "has blocked some features". Now, left click on this line. A submenu will pop up allowing you to find out more information, or allow the blocked action. If you want to change what actions windows XP blocks, you need to go to the menu bar, under tools, click internet options. Then back tab and move to the security tab. Tab until you get to the customize button and activate it. You will be presented with a tree view with catigorized options. To select an option press space bar on it. If you don't know what something does, don't change it.

So was it your popup blocker doob, Leaf? That happened to me. if it's the same thing i'm thinking of. The XP SP2 came iwht a weird popup blocker and my Yahoo! COmpanion got enabled and everything was messed up. I dont' think this is the same as yoru problem though.

No it was the toolbar that was not allowing Flash to be installed. I installed it, and the problem disappeared.

I'd just like to add that there's no need and that there is a shortcut key, although this is not jaws, but a wnidows shortcut, but if you hear a opup blocking noise or direct X download stopping sound, you can just do alt+n to access the information toolbar, so no need to mess about with jaws cursor.

Thanks for the alt n shortcut, don't know where you found it, but it will be useful. I keep downright NSA style security settings on my IE so am forever allowing spacific things via the toolbar. This will save a couple of minutes a day I'm sure.
